Guelph vs Queen’s – Credit: Greg Kolz.

The Queen’s Gaels exercised their demons on Friday night at Matt Anthony Field in Ottawa, as they defeated their OUA rival Guelph Gryphons 38-28 in the national semifinal.

It was the third meeting between teams this season, with Guelph taking the two prior meetings, the Gaels

With a friendly Queen’s crowd making the short trip to the Nation’s Capital, the Gaels rallied back from a tough spot early.

Guelph sprung to a 14-0 lead after Queen’s had a player carded in the opening minutes. The Gaels responded in the 17th minute with a massive run by Marcus D’Acre.

D’Acre would singlehandedly close the gap, scoring again and converting both tries, as the Gaels’ onslaught had them up 26-14 at the break.

Queen’s continued to pour it on to start the second half, before the Gryphons had a late surge, adding 14 points in the final 12 minutes.

The Gaels defended valiantly to close out the win and punch their ticket to the national final on Sunday.

A brand-new champion will be crowned as the Gaels will face the ÉTS Piranhas on Sunday at 6 p.m. (ET) for the Spence McTavish Cup.
