The no. 6 Queen’s Gaels and no. 3 University of Victoria Vikes took to Matt Anthony Field for an electric back-and-forth matchup.
Marcus D’Acre got the Gaels on the board first, powering through for a try in the opening six minutes. The Vikes were quick to respond, and the teams spent the rest of the first half exchanging points.
The Vikes gained the edge as Phoenix Moller touched down for a try in the 28th minute but the Gaels managed to put together seven points to establish a 19-17 lead heading into half time.
Capitalizing on a Victoria turnover near midfield. Kwame Skerritt-Williams found the try zone and a successful convert extended the Gaels’ lead.
A late surge from Victoria put the Vikes back in range, but the Gaels’ held on with a score of 26-24 to advance to the CUMRC semifinal on Friday night.
The 7 p.m. (ET) semifinal game will be against the winner of Ottawa vs. Guelph while the Vikes will take on the loser of the game in the consolation semifinal scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) on Friday.
