The Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship (CUMRC) is pleased to announce the seedings and tournament bracket for the 2024 championship, hosted by the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, ON. The tournament kicks off on Wednesday, November 13, and concludes on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
The eight participating teams, listed in seeding order, are as follows:
- #1, University of British Columbia, BC University Champion
- #2, University of Guelph, OUA Champion
- #3, University of Victoria, BC University Runner-Up
- #4, Memorial University, Atlantic Champion
- #5, École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), RSEQ Champion
- #6, Queen’s University, OUA Runner-Up
- #7, University of Ottawa, Hosts & RSEQ Runner-Up
- #8, University of British Columbia – Okanagan, Prairies Champion
The seeding process follows the principles established by the CUMRC, which aim to respect the results of regional playoffs, avoid same-region matchups on Day 1, and consider previous years’ championship results and any inter-conference play. The draw has been structured so that regional champions are seeded higher than champions from regions with lower finishes in the previous year. The draw, as outlined by the CUMRC regulations, features the following matchups for the quarterfinals:
- 1 vs 8: University of British Columbia vs. University of British Columbia – Okanagan
- 4 vs 5: Memorial University vs. École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS)
- 2 vs 7: University of Guelph vs. University of Ottawa
- 3 vs 6: University of Victoria vs. Queen’s University
Quarterfinal games are scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, beginning at 10:30 a.m. (all times Eastern) with Memorial facing ETS, followed by UBC vs. UBCO at 1:00 p.m. and Victoria vs. Queen’s at 4:30 p.m. The evening will see host Ottawa taken on Guelph at 7:00 p.m.
Game Day 2 is set for Friday, November 15, with consolation semifinals at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and championship semifinals at 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
The final day, Sunday, November 17, will open with the seventh-place at 10:00 a.m., fifth-place game at 12:30 p.m., followed by the bronze-medal match at 3 p.m. and the championship game at 6 p.m.
